Safeway plans to make an announcement that they will be the first major retailer to run its entire fleet of trucks on biodiesel fuels. Reportedly, the announcement will be made at the Dublin, California Safeway store which is powered by solar energy. Currently, Safeway operates over one thousand large trucks and estimates that their switch to biodiesel fuel will reduce CO2 emissions by 75 million annually. The company uses B20 Biodiesel, which is a combination of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel. |

HP has announced the publication of guidelines designed to help multinational companies achieve sustainability throughout their supply lines. The guidelines came out of a report written by the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency looking at the impact multinationals can have on the standards in their supply chains. The guidelines are based on the findings of the study which focused on 1) a study of the sustainable supply chain management practices of the multinational information technology corporation Hewlett-Packard (HP), 2) on-site assessments of the social and environmental practices of SME suppliers in HP’s supply chain in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland... (15 countries) 3) capability-building activities aimed at the SME suppliers.

SC Johnson will be putting its Greenlist logo on its eco-friendly products starting this month - the first product will be Windex. The company states that through their Greenlist Process (a raw material rating systems developed in 2001) has successfully removed 61 millions pounds of VOCs from the environment of which 1.8 million pounds came from Windex alone. The process has also enabled the company to reformulate Pledge to increase its biodegradability while simultaneously increasing cleaning power. As well, Fantastik Orange Action is now solvent free with no VOCs.

Clorox is announcing a partnership today with the Sierra Club, as part of its launch of a new line of environmentally friendly cleaning products, the company's first new brand in 20 years. Sierra Club will help promote the cleaners, which are 99% derived from coconuts and lemon oil. |

General Motors announced an investment in a start-up company, Coskata, to commercialize the process of turning biomass, municipal trash, waste tires, wood chips, and other low-grade waste into ethanol -- at a price of under $1 per gallon. The plan is to build facilities that could produce 100 million gallons a year each by 2010. |
