The Toyota Prius - a cool, comfortable and sleek car endorsed by celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Gwyneth Paltrow is attracting more then "deep green" consumers. The Prius' ability to reach the general consumer is a result of well calculated advertising campaigns. Through out the seven years that Prius has been available, the company has made every effort to target the mainstream audience and not just the green consumers, even though the Prius is definitely a green car. So, how has Prius reached the average consumer?

The Discovery Communications Planet Green is the first TV network that will be exclusively devoted to environmental issues 24 hours a day and will launch on June 4. General Motors will be the exclusive national sponsor of Planet Green during it's first year.

Jetting To Green Print E-mail

JetBlue has offered a new initiative to it's customers named “Jetting to Green”. The initiative offers JetBlue customers the ability to offset carbon dioxide emissions generated by their travel. The initiative is a result of a partnership between JetBlue and Carbonfund.org. Offseting carbon emissions starts as low as $5 per round trip flight.

UPS Increases Number of Hybrid Trucks Print E-mail

UPS has already been using hybrid trucks in it's U.S. Green Fleet, now they are increasing their fleet - the company will go from 50 to 250 trucks on the road. UPS expects that the hybrid trucks will save the company 176,000 gallons of fuel a year and reduce CO2 emissions by 1,786 metric tons each year. The CO2 emissions are equivalent to taking 100 UPS trucks off the road for one year.
