I just came across an article about Intel starting up a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) blog, I know McDonalds has one too, and it got me thinking. How come more companies don’t do this, and if your company doesn’t have a CSR blog, why not?
I know, you’re probably wondering what’s so special about having a blog, there are tons of blogs on the web. However, nowadays if you want to find information on how sustainable a company is, all you have to do is google the company name with the word “sustainability” next to it and more than likely a link to the company’s sustainable webpage pops up. Click on that and you’re brought to a page where the company has statements from all the “big players” (CEO, COO, CSO, Presidents, VP’s, etc.), on how they pledge their commitment to being a sustainable company. If they’re really serious about their commitment they’ll probably have their sustainability reports and other examples of their sustainable efforts. All this is great but, don’t you feel that these sites are a bit boring and “cookie cutter” like? I do.
I think having a CSR blog would be a fantastic opportunity to show everyone what goes on behind the scenes. It would give customers, investors, employees, and whoever else might be interested, an insight into what your company is doing on a regular basis. The blog would allow for a personal perspective on issues and could function as a place for feedback on current and future sustainability initiatives. There are other good reasons to have a CSR blog but, most importantly a CSR blog will separate you from the crowd, and get your business noticed. Now get out there and blog! Feel free to drop us a link to your blog and let us know what you’re doing!
