eBay Goes Solar Print E-mail

The largest solar installation in San Jose, California was unveiled by eBay. The system, atop the company’s North Campus buildings, has 3,248 solar panels, which spans 60,000 square feet, supplying 18 percent of the campus’ power with expected savings of $100,000 in its first year. 

 

eBay employees have been given the option to implement solar energy in their homes through SolarCity, the company that installed the system.

 

The U.S. Green Building Council gave one of eBay’s buildings its first LEED-Gold certification; the first building in Northern California to achieve this rating. Through reuse and recycling, it diverted more than 75 percent of its construction waste and reduced energy and water consumption by installing low-flow faucets, eco-friendly irrigation and workstation light-dimming systems.
