Con-Way Truckload announced its new enterprise-wide sustainability initiative. By reducing its 2,700-tractor fleet maximum speed from 70 to 65 mph, the company could lessen its carbon emissions by 62 million pounds, equivalent to removing 6,300 cars from American highways. The company also expects an annual fuel conservation of 2.8 million gallons of diesel.
In addition to lowering the speed governors, Con-Way has invested in new technologies and practices such as switching to single wide-base tires, lowering truck weights, installing aerodynamic panels to trucks and reducing idling times - all in an effort to decrease its environmental impact.
Con-Way is adamant that there will be no deterioration in service and reliability and commends the truck drivers for their support and professionalism.
