The bottle water industry, which saw impressive five-year growth from 2002 – 2007, is starting to contract.Educated consumers have slowed purchasing plastic bottles as they’ve become aware of their environmental impact.According to a study by the Mintel Group.

Sales growth was off fifteen per cent for 2006 – 2007 with the market expanding thirty one per cent. Compared to the previous years continuing forty six per cent sales increase.“Sustainability is the primary cause, with consumers becoming more aware of the environmental effects of water bottle waste,” Mintel Group wrote.They note companies who market bottle water have begun to address the sustainability purchasing problem by offering less plastic in their bottled products.
