If you own a green car, the toll agencies are happy to give you a discount reports the New York Times. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey offers $2 off their E-ZPass and The New York State Thruway Authority offers 10% off their E-ZPass only to owners of Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Insight cars. The thruway authorities report that so far they have issues 1,240 green tags out of 2.3 million tags issued over all.
New York however is not the only state or country that is giving discounts for green cars. In Milan, their EcoPass charges based on vehicle emissions in five engine classes. Prices range from $2.90 to $14.50 on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m, however vehicles with methane, electricity and hybrid engines, as well as ambulances and many motorcycles, are exempt. As well, London has started to charge a pollution fee on buses and trucks entering the city however once again clean vehicles and electric cars are exempt. Read the full story at Environmental Leader
