Coke Sets Goal of Recycling All Bottles Sold in U.S. Print E-mail

Coca-Cola has expressed their desire to be more "green" by focusing on recycling of their Coke bottles. Coca-Cola is planning on building a $45 million plastics recycling plant in South Carolina setting the company's goal as having every bottle it sells in the U.S. either recycled or reused. Currently, the company estimates that approximately 10% of its plastic bottles are recycled. 
 

The company will spend $60 million on its recycling efforts this year and plans to loan and / or invest $44 million in the plant project. The project is a joint venture with United Resource Recovery Corp. It is estimated that the 30 acre plant will produce approximately 100 million pounds of food-grade recyclable plastic per year. That is equivalent to 2 billion 20 ounce Coca-Cola bottles.
