PVC Out for Sears and KMart Print E-mail

Sears Holdings, parent company of Kmart and Sear & Roebuck has informed their consumers that they will be phasing out PVC (toxic polyvinyl chloride) plastic in its packaging and products.  Currently, PVC can be found in a variety of products including toys, lunch boxes, jewelry and electronics. PVC is found to contain more than 3 million tons of lead and may also contain phthalates.

Sears Holdings has advised that they will encourage their vendors to reduce or eliminate their use of PVC. Sears Holdings is following the footprints of Wal-Mart, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Apple and Target who have announced similar measures. The goal is to identify safer and more sustainable PVC alternatives.
