A new service called ShipGreen allows customers to calculate and offset the carbon impact of shipping individual packages. This is done by a mathematical model that calculates the emissions of individual product shipments using the weight of an item and the distance and means of travel (road, rail or air). ShipGreen is geared towards online retailers who can add the link to their website and it will calculate the offset shipping - the ShipGreen service is free of charge for retailers. When customers complete their purchase they can choose how to offset their carbon impact either through wind, solar or forestry projects.

The company has attached itself to projects ranging from a hydropower plant in Indonesia, to wind projects in Madagascar and New Zealand, to a biomass facility in India, and a reforestation project in China. Reportedly, all projects are independently verified by third parties.
