Green Cleaning Network Launches Industry Climate Initiative Print E-mail

The nonprofit Green Cleaning Network (GCN) joined with eco-consultants The Leonardo Academy to unveil a plan to help the industrial and institutional cleaning industry reduce its emissions and environmental impact. The initiative aims to raise companies' awareness about both the extent of their impact and the potential ways to reduce that impact. Registration in the iniative costs $200, for which companies will receive a carbon footprint assessment and information on how to offset anywhere from 50 percent to 300 percent of those emissions.

GCN Executive Director Stephen Ashkin advised that "Climate change is going to be one of the most important issues of our time," and "While the cleaning industry certainly isn't the major cause of the problem, because we are such a huge industry comprised of over 70,000 companies, hundreds of thousands of vehicles and employing approximately four million people we have to do our part and we can make an important contribution to the solution."
