The Six Sins of Greenwash…and How to Repent |

A report released last week by TerraChoice Environmental Marketing is getting attention throughout the world of sustainable business. President Scott McDougall commissioned a study to examine the prevalence of greenwashing in companies making green claims and found that, knowingly or unknowingly, 99% of the over 1000 products tested were greenwashing.
The report, entitled: “The Six Sins of Greenwashing: A study of Environmental Claims in North American Consumer Markets”, presents six commonly found misrepresentations in sustainable marketing, including: The Sin of the Hidden Tradeoff, The Sin of No Proof, The Sin of Vagueness, The Sin of Irrelevance, The Sin of Lesser of Two Evils, The Sin of Fibbing.
