Germany Leads Way on Renewables, Sets 45% Target by 2030 |

Thanks largely to a “feed-in tariff” which guarantees a long-term price for energy sold back to the power grid from renewable sources, Germany is seeing unmatched growth in its renewable energy industry since 2000.
The share of electricity from renewable sources has increased from 6.3% in 2000 to 12%, already ahead of official targets for 2010. As a result the government has increased its targets for renewable energy up to 27% by 2020 and 45% by 2030 Renewable energy in Germany saved 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2006, with a net economic benefit of 6 billion Euros.
