New Zealand Aims to be World's First Carbon Neutral Nation |

New Zealand has become the first country to announce its intention to become completely carbon neutral, hoping to do so by 2040. The strategy includes plans for substantial reductions in emissions, along with carbon offsetting projects. By 2025, the goal is to obtain 90 percent of all electricity from renewable sources. The New Zealand government is increasing funding for research in the development of more sustainable, low-emission technologies, aware that, as in Sweden, the economy may well benefit from the added incentives for green innovation.
