Is Beijing’s Air Quality Ready for the 2008 Olympics? |

With August 8, 2008 fast approaching, officials have been pouring money into Beijing in an attempt to beautify its image. But the quick-fixes are not distracting people from Beijing’s major environmental issue, air quality.
Entrepreneurs like Li Zhengxiao, an associate professor with Peking University who developed a fuel additive to reduce car emissions, are hoping to tackle the problem. Foreign business is also getting involved, like German automaker DaimlerChrysler which donated three fuel cell buses to Beijing.
The question is whether these efforts will be enough to noticeably improve air quality in the city by next summer’s Olympics. Read the full article at Worlwatch Institute
