Department of Energy Recognizes Six Leading Organizations for Helping the U.S. ‘Go Green’ Print E-mail

The U.S. Department of Energy has recognized six organizations for advancing the development and use of renewable energy throughout the United States. Combined, the six have accounted for the use of over 5 billion kilowatt-hours of green power per year with the ability to power 465,000 households.

The 2007 winners are: Constellation NewEnergy (Baltimore, MD), 3Degrees (San Francisco, CA), Sterling Planet (Norcross, GA), SunEdison (Beltsville, MD), Pacific Power and Rocky Mountain Power (Portland, OR), and Silicon Valley Power (Santa Clara, CA).

Mitsubishi Aims to Slash Emissions Print E-mail

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has announced a plan to reduce its carbon emissions from both production and product use by 2021, as well as advance solar energy usage and boost its recycling rates. This, among other environmental initiatives was laid out in the company’s “Environmental Vision 2021” document, a framework to guide the company to sustainability by 2021, their 100th anniversary.

Pepsi, Kohl’s Among Companies Honoured for Green Power Purchases Print E-mail

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday honored 17 companies that combine to buy nearly 4 billion kilowatt hours of green power each year. 

The Green Power Partners are companies that commit to buying renewable power such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas and low-impact hydro. The EPA selected seven Green Power Partners of the Year. They are Whole Foods Market, Wells Fargo and Co. Staples, PepsiCo, Mohawk Fine Paper, Johnson and Johnson, and the city of Bellingham, Washington.

Yahoo! Goes Carbon Neutral Print E-mail

ImageFollowing an April pledge to be carbon neutral by 2007, Yahoo! announced today investments to offset its 250,000 tonne carbon footprint from 2006. The total cost of the investments for this relatively small carbon emitter will be just $2 million, a paltry sum compared with its $6.7 billion in revenues.

The investments will focus on two projects in developing nations: hydropower in Brazil and wind turbines in India.
