Over the last few years, The Hotel Carlton in San Francisco has celebrated several initiatives that have lead to its official Green Business certification but now this luxurious hotel is embarking on something new. The Hotel is committed to offsetting it's energy use through solar power. Hotel Carlton is the first hotel in San Francisco to install solar panels - it partnered with Sunlight Electric, to install 104 solar panels that cover 1,332 square feet of the hotel's roof. The Hotel estimates that the solar panels will reduce the hotel's electricity usage by 12 percent. And, guests will be able to view the total kilowatt energy generated by the solar power system through a computer monitor stationed at the front desk.

OfficeMax is offering new yet familiar products created by TerraCycle. The newest products is a pencil case made from discarded containers of Capri Sun juice. TerraCycle, a company that strives to innovate products from "waste stream" materials will be providing a whole line for OfficeMax - other products include binders made from 100 percent reused cardboard, trash cans made from recycled e-waste plastic and non-toxic cleaning products packaged in old soda bottles. |

National Grid, the utility company with operations in the U.S. and United Kingdom has modified it's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% from the original 60% goal. National Grid plans to achieve this by 2050 taking into consideration their carbon budget in all future operations including construction, design, investments, and maintenance of its electricity, gas networks and fleets. The company plans to create annual and five year emissions goals in order to reach their 80% reduction target. |

Kodak set out internal goals several years ago to ensure that they would become a sustainable company. Their success in meeting those goals has been so quick that new benchmarks will need to be set, according to a Kodak spokesman. The company has reduced their total energy consumption by 30% since 2002, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 28%, and reduced occupational injury rates by 58%. |
