The Greener By Design Conference held on April 25-27, 2008 helped people see how to innovate while being green. The goal of the conference (as provided by the Greener By Design website) was to: * Teach companies the "how-to" of building sustainability into the product development process with a focus on greening mainstream products, both consumer and B-to-B * Go beyond high-level views by providing cutting edge strategies, tools, techniques and markets for greener products with an emphasis on biomimicry, cradle-to-cradle design and green chemistry * Integrate design processes into development of business strategies to include sales and marketing * Learn from leadership companies as well as participate interactively with unique workshops * Impress the importance of sustainability for company innovation and future growth * Provide an unmatched networking opportunity between leaders in the industry, practitioners in product development and design, environmental stewards, supply chain management, business strategists and marketers and prominent design schools students and educators |

It appears that more and more people are becoming a little skeptical of Al Gore's push for climate protection. The new campaign titled, "We Can Solve It" has touched a nerve with more than one consumer. In fact, many have pointed out that the comparisons in the campaign are not accurate. |

Researchers at the Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts put out the Toxic 100, a list of the top corporate air polluters. The corporation that took the honours of the biggest polluter was DuPont. The researchers looked at the quantity of pollution released and the toxicity of the chemicals. |

Jeff Rubin, chief strategist and economist at CIBC World Markets believes that tariffs on carbon emissions may come soon. And if carbon tariffs are imposed then countries with high greenhouse gas emissions will not be seen as good choices for manufacturing regardless of their low costs. So what does this mean? It means that we could see industries such as plastics, chemicals and steel leaving China and returning to America to set up operations. |
