Big Blue (IBM) has collaborated with Evergreen Energy (EEE) to create the GreenCert greenhouse gas meter. It's an Internet-based software program designed to collect real-time emissions data from sensors and other sources. It's able to calculate the volume of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere by any company and then certifies any reductions as credits that can be traded on carbon markets.
There is a proposed energy project by Chestwood Associates called the Wind Dam. The sail is 25 meters high and 75 meters wide. The unique cup-shaped spinnaker sail will capture and harness wind to generate renewable energy by funneling wind through an attached turbine.
ConAgra Foodservice (a division of ConAgra Foods, NYSE: CAG) has launched a new eco-friendly package to the Wesson Oil product line. The new type of packaging is both safer and more environmentally friendly than their current 35 pound Jug-in-Box oils.
The new packaging includes four built in handles and a spout for easier pouring and is now called Bag-in-Box.
Bag-in-Box packaging is eco-friendly in two ways:
It uses 66% less plastic than traditional packaging.
It takes up 36% less space in dumpsters when broken down.
In its latest edition of the quarterly ‘Guide to Greener Electronics’, Greenpeace has stated that Nintendo “completely fails to show any environmental credentials”. Microsoft and Philips were also ranked near the bottom, with companies like Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Dell and Sony doing the most in terms of sustainability.
