Bless this Water 

There appears to be two sides to every coin, specifically when talking about bottled water. Water sustainability has jumped onto most people's eco-radars with the recent demonizing of bottled water. Water has long been observed as a fundamental of faith. Not surprising that companies are now attempting to make funds of the spirituality of water. Companies are making claims such as their water doesn't just promote good health but it actually makes you good. Now a person can drink Holy Drinking Water produced by Wayne Enterprises which is reportedly blessed by an Anglican or Roman Catholic priest or Liquid OM whose super purified bottled water contains vibrations that promote a positive outlook or Spiritual Water which claims to help people "stay focused, believe in yourself and believe in God". However, a small number of individuals are campaigning against the sale of water because "Water is life," says Sister Mary Zirbes, a nun in the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minn. "It really should not be a commodity to be bought."

Subway's Diet: Less Oil, More Recycling Print E-mail

ImageThe Subway sandwich chain is testing recycling bins, switching its napkins, cutlery and plastic cups and cutting down on the gasoline used to transport its restaurant supplies in an effort to minimize the chain's impact on the environment. Subway is testing the new initiatives at an ‘eco-store’ it opened in Florida.

ImageAppealing to high-end consumers abroad and to the increasingly discerning tastes of the booming Indian middle class is a top priority for India's teahouses. The Tea Board of India won "geographical indication" status from the World Trade Organization for Darjeeling tea last year and is pursuing similar recognition for Assam tea, prized for full-bodied blends like English breakfast, and for the aromatic, copper-colored Nilgiri tea from southern India.

Tea producers are experimenting with delicate white teas, which are less processed and contain more antioxidants than black teas, and oolongs, which fall midway between green and black teas. Darjeeling is also leading a move toward organic farming, with a third of its estates now certified as chemical-free.

Dole to Make Banana and Pineapple Supply Chain Carbon Neutral Print E-mail

Dole Food Co. announced plans to make its banana and pineapple supply chain carbon neutral.

Standard Fruit de Costa Rica, the company's Costa Rican operating subsidiary, will work with the country's National Forestry Financing Fund (FONAFIFO) to wipe out the emissions from the fruits' production, packing, transport and distribution to European and North American markets.
